What is a web browser?
In order to view web sites you need software called a web browser. The most well known web browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator. Both are free, have PC and Macintosh versions, and can be downloaded from the web sites of the companies who make them: Internet Explorer can be downloaded for free at http://www.microsoft.com and Netscape Communicator can be downloaded for free at http://www.netscape.com.

Apple Computer has recently designed their own web browser, only for Macintosh computers. It is called Safari and is available to be downloaded for free at http://www.apple.com.

NOTE: If your ISP is America Online (AOL), you already have their web browser built into the AOL software so you don't have to download any of the web browsers mentioned above.
